Late deduction attracts 1.0% simple interest per month or part of a month from liability date. Late deposit attracts 1.5% per month under Rule 119A. Interest is mandatory and cannot be waived.
Delayed submission of quarterly returns (24Q, 26Q, 27Q) attracts a statutory fee of ₹200 per day of default until filed. The total late fee cannot exceed the principal TDS amount for the quarter.
If payee does not furnish PAN, TDS is deducted at 20% (Sec 206AA / Sec 394). For non-filers of previous ITRs with aggregate TDS > ₹50k, Section 206AB mandates twice normal rate or 5%.
Failure to deposit TDS on or before the due date of filing ITR under Section 139(1) / Section 263 results in 30% disallowance of resident expenditure, increasing taxable corporate profits.
Deducters must generate Form 16A digitally signed from TRACES. Mismatches in PAN or challan CIN require online correction statements (C1, C2, C3 requests) to reflect credit in payee AIS.
